Do you guys know what brachioplasty is and what it is for? A brachioplasty, commonly called an arm lift surgery, is a procedure to reshape and provide improved contour to the upper arms and connecting area of chest wall. It aims to reduce excess sagging skin that droops downward, tightens and smoothens the underlying supportive tissue that defines the shape of the upper arm, and reduces localized pockets of fat in the upper arm region.
Arm lift candidates are those who have significant upper arm skin laxity. Also, you are a good candidate if you are:
- An adult of any age whose weight is stable or not overweight
- A healthy individual without any medical conditions that impair healing or increase risk of surgery like diabetes
- A non-smoker
How does the procedure go? First, an anesthetic is introduced to your body. The choices include intravenous sedation and general anesthesia. An incision is then done, which is generally placed on the inside of the arm or on the back of the arm, and may extend from the underarm to just above the elbow. Excess fat may be directly excised or treated with liposuction. The incision is then closed and note that the smoother, tighter contours will be apparent almost immediately following your procedure.
