Hair Treatment and Hair Care

August 24, 2016 By Elizabeth Leave a Comment

Is your hair in bad shape, splitting, breaking off, dry, or frizzy? Or is your hair experiencing all of these? Yikes! What should you be doing? Getting a hair treatment is the answer but which one and why? First of all, let us find out first the basic facts about it. What is hair treatment anyway? When should you have it? How often should you get it done?

The Basics

Before getting your hair treatment done, there are several things to think about first. The first is always the scalp. Healthy hair starts below the skin in the follicle and a healthy scalp means healthy hair.  The second is preventative maintenance and the third is repair. If you take all of this into consideration in having your hair treated, your hair will definitely be visibly healthier inside and out.

Let’s start with the scalp. In beauty salons, making the scalp healthier involves the use of natural extracts such as ascorbic acid, vitamin c and eucalyptus to remove build up from the hair follicle.  For preventive maintenance, a good detoxifying treatment and a mild reconstructor are often used to keep the hair in tip top shape. Finally, repairs involve using Amino Acid Polymer that will “glue” the hair together from the inside out.

Two Types of Hair Treatment

There are two known types of hair treatment available in all beauty salons out there. The first is the reconstructors type which make the hair stronger and are generally protein based. This is for you if you have chemically damaged hair from getting a perm or dyeing your hair. They are often a combination of protein and moisture as pure protein treatments used incorrectly can leave the hair brittle.

The other type is “moisturizers” and this is the most common type of treatment. Moisturizer treatments are great for frizzy, dry hair and those of you with curly hair that lacks bounce. This method will also treat damaged conditions from chemical to physical causes.

How Often Should You Have Your Hair Treated?

Ideally, at a minimum, you should be getting a treatment at least every three months to kick start your scalp and hair but, more often would be better.  If your hair is in really bad shape, a twice a week treatment is even needed, but generally for fair to poor conditioned hair once a week is recommended.  Remember that your hair can only take in so much extra nourishment and over doing it will do nothing anymore and you will just end up wasting your money.

If you start noticing the difference, do let us know! Send selfies of you and your healthy hair too if you want. More articles about beauty tips are on its way so do stay tuned!
