Just like making your own pizza dough, we came up with an article about making your own buns. Why so? Well, there may be times when you won’t be able to find good buns out there for your burgers. In these cases, you have no choice but create a homemade version. And, while you’re at it, it will be wise to choose the healthiest ingredients that you yourself prefer. So, enough talking and let’s get baking. You can also modify this hamburger bun recipe as you wish. This recipe yields eight buns for your delicious buns.
Ingredients
- 3/4 to 1 cup of lukewarm water
- 2 tablespoons of butter at room temperature
- 1 large egg
- 3 1/2 cups of All-Purpose Flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
- 1 tablespoon instant yeast
How to Prepare
First, mix and knead all of the dough ingredients. Do this by hand, or by using a mixer, or even a bread machine. Knead the ingredients to make a soft, smooth dough. Next, cover the dough, and let it rise for 1 to 2 hours, or until it’s nearly doubled in bulk. Gently deflate the dough, and divide it into 8 pieces. Shape each piece into a round ball and then flatten them. Place the buns on a lightly greased or parchment-lined baking sheet, cover, and let rise for about an hour, until noticeably puffy. Brush the buns with about half of the melted butter then bake the buns in a preheated 375°F oven for 15 to 18 minutes, until golden. Lastly, remove the buns from the oven, and brush with the remaining melted butter. This will give the buns a satiny, buttery crust. Cool the buns on a rack and once cooled, use them for your delicious burgers.
Other tips
For best results, or for you to achieve a smooth and soft dough, use smaller amount of water in summer or in a humid environment. Brushing buns with melted butter will give them a soft, light golden crust. However, if you want a shinier and darker crust, brush instead with an egg-white wash. Another way to shape the buns is, first, gently deflate the dough, and form it into a smooth 8″ log. Then, slice the log as though you were slicing cinnamon buns. Gently pull each slice into a circle.
