If you are a Mexican food fanatic who loves making homemade tacos, nachos, salsas, and what not, then maybe its time that you take it to the next level. Why not try a throwing a cinco de mayo party at your home instead? Cinco de Mayo is the ideal occasion to throw a Mexican fiesta with Mexican food, music, and decorations. So here we tell you how to celebrate that popular Mexican holiday, even if it’s not May 5, right at your home.
Anything red, white, and green will be a good choice for your decorations as these colors are found in the Mexican flag. If you have Mexican handicrafts or papel picado on hand, these will add a nice touch to your decor too. Want to go the extra mile? String up some chili pepper lights to add a festive touch to your party.
Do play some mariachi music too to add to that Mexican feel. To make it easier, just purchase a simple CD compilation. Two popular CDs are the Cinco de Mayo Party Music or Mexico’s Greatest Hits. If you want something more modern, we suggest downloading songs from artists such as the Gypsy Kings and Santana.
Good friends and strong tequila are definitely two Cinco de Mayo must-haves. In addition to tequila though, mezcal is also one Mexican drink that you should have for your party. With these drinks on hand, you can make margaritas, or any of the Cinco de Mayo cocktails. Don’t forget to give your margarita glasses an edge by rimming them in lime juice and rock salt first.
Some favorite appetizers for a Cinco de Mayo party include jalapeño poppers, and nachos with guacamole and salsa. You can also go for a simple DIY main course. Do this by placing shredded chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, beans, cheese, sour cream, guacamole and pico de gallo in serving bowls. Prepare hard and soft shells on a platter too.
So, have fun and happy Cinco de Mayo!
