A Homemade Barbecue Sauce For All Occasions

Maybe you’re one of those people who prefer ready made barbecue sauce… so why go homemade? The best answer to that is “everything that’s homemade is better because you are in control”. You decide which ingredients to add and remove, and in the end, you’ll come up with something that matches your taste. Also, there will be times where making your own sauce will be practical. Like if you ran out of barbecue sauce and more guests are expected to arrive. It’s always handy to have a barbecue sauce recipe in hand.
Ingredients
Again, you can change any component of this recipe as you wish. You can use honey or molasses instead of brown sugar or you can use Dijon mustard instead of ground mustard. You can also add Tabasco sauce or sprinkle some smoked paprika for smoky flavor, if you like. The suggested ingredients, however, are:
- 2 cups of ketchup
- 1 cup of water
- 1/2 cup apple of cider vinegar
- 5 tablespoons of light brown sugar
- 5 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of fresh ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon of ground mustard
- A tablespoon of lemon juice
- A tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon of onion powder
Directions
In a medium saucepan, combine all ingredients. Bring mixture to a boil, reduce heat to simmer. Cook uncovered, stirring frequently, for 1 hour 15 minutes.
