A mighty top track speed of 212 mph. Zero to sixty in 2.85 seconds. A supercharged 6.2 litre V8 engine. The 2019 ZR1 promises 755 beautiful horsepower with 715 lb.-ft of torque. Drooling yet or is that just me? We haven’t even scratched the surface yet!
Filled with an impressive line-up of Chevrolet firsts, the 2019 ZR1 features a dual fuel injection system using a port fuel rail with injectors in addition to its direct injection system to give you extra fueling when you want it most. At first look it seems that Chevrolet rethought nearly every aspect.
The newest corvette seeks to compete with its much pricier competitors. The ZR1 starts at $121,000 a price tag not for the faint of heart but also still on the low end for a car that can reach these speeds. Of course the price escalates quickly with additions. Though even at base price it seems performance was their driving force. With available features like an adjustable high wing made of carbon fiber that is stanchion-mounted to increase downforce by about 60% over the current Z06 without a significant increase in drag.
Though they did not forget to offer some luxurious touches. As an example, you can get Napa leather seating surfaces that are heated and vented. You have the choice of three driver modes at the twist of a dial to customize your 2019 ZR1 to your journey. These three distinct driver modes are track, tour, and sport. They tried to make every minute aspect performance focused including the carbon-fiber halo hood and engine cover, chevron patterned to both look good and shed weight and improve performance.
Still, while the 2019 ZR1 is indeed impressive, it is not the mid-engine many anticipated. Though word is that the 2020 corvette will indeed be that long awaited by some mid-engine. Many feel that the beloved corvette needs to remain a front-engine beast. Me? I’m on the fence, I won’t know until I see the new model how I feel. Though since my teen years, corvettes have been among my favorites. I’ve even been known to shovel the neighbors driveway free of snow for just a few minutes peek at his classic 1963 corvette.
