March 8, 2019 By Elizabeth Leave a Comment

Muay Thai is a very interesting martial arts practice. You might be interested to know that it originated in the 18th century. A famous fighter Nai Khanomtom created and brought the art to national attention after being caught and using his fighting prowess to win his own freedom.

Since then, Muay Thai has been being refined and gaining further popularity. Did you know that it was only through beating several other styles that global attention was caught for this sport? In many areas, this intensive style falls under MMA for competition purposes. As you may have guessed, it is this intensity that lends Muay Thai to being one of the best martial arts for exercise.

Muay Thai for Exercise

Did you know, this style is most notably characterized by brutal flurries of blows? Thus, it is called the “art of eight limbs”. Though its name literally means Thai boxing.

First, you should know that it is unusual for a training facility to allow you to practice Thai boxing without sparring. So, if your only focus is exercise you may wish to look for a different form of training. However, with the vigorous attacks, this form of martial arts is great for fat burning, and strengthening your core muscles!

Traditionally, formal Muay Thai techniques are divided into major and minor types. Also, the competitions see opponents alternate blows or attacks against one another. This form of match though has fallen to the side in favor of faster paced competitions.

You can find more on the origin, lore, and history of Muay Thai on its wikipedia page. This fascinating sport style is recognized as potentially the best form of martial arts for exercise. Just keep in mind that it is not the best form for overall defense. You will need to weigh what you are looking for in a form of martial arts carefully before deciding which to pursue.
