Myths About Building A New Home

October 6, 2016 By Elizabeth Leave a Comment

Believe it or not, a lot of people have some misconceptions about building a new home. As a result, a lot of prospective home buyers believe that having a new home built is less desirable than purchasing a previously owed one. So what are these wrong pieces of information that’s preventing you from building a new home, the home of your dreams? Here we tell you some of the most common myths.

Building a New Home is Stressful

Building a new home is definitely not stressful! That’s what we are here for, right? Don’t we have listings of the best home builders in your area? Besides, building a new home should be a joyful and exciting time in your life. Maybe one reason why building a new home would be considered stressful is the absence of rapport between client and builder. Lack of communication can leave homeowners unsure about what is happening or when it is happening. In addition, because of the poor relationship, clients are forced to make quick and crude decisions. In these cases, building a new home does seem to be stressful. But then again, we are here to help you with that.

Buying a Previously Owned Home is Less Expensive

Buying a previously owned home is definitely cheaper…. but you still need to have it remodeled. Remodeling work costs on average about twice as much per square foot as building a new home. When you buy a previously owned home, there are also more lax Building Codes which usually means less energy efficiency and greater potential for problems. Did the previous owners leave it well maintained or did they leave all the problems too? Also, when you buy an old home, you are also getting an old HVAC unit, an old roof, old windows, etc.  Think of all the expenses and stress you may by just encounter replacing those!

Building a New Home is Bad for the Environment.

This myth stems from the idea that we should continue living in existing structures and stop building new ones to live in. It also claims that the energy that goes into building a new home is wasteful when there are already homes available. Definitely a myth! New homes are being built to be more efficient with resources than older homes. This means that the materials that go into building a home, the appliances that run inside of it, and the resources the house requires to function, are generally better for the environment. The latest trend in building is “green,” which means new homes are made to be better for the environment.

New Homes are Small

This myth probably came from the concurrent popularity of micro housing and minimalist small houses. Truly, there are a lot of new houses that have smaller square footage with maximized interior space these days. However, there are also a lot of plenty more new homes that have plenty of space and offer enough storage. Just establish a good relationship with your builder and he will build your home the way you want it.
