For those not working from home, taking home work is definitely a nuisance. How so? Think of it this way, you should be spending time with your family or relaxing at home, right? Instead, you’re taking home work either because the load is too much or maybe because its the nature of your responsibilities. Some who do cherish the idea of it are actually those flex-time employees who have all the time in the world. But either way, when you’re working in your home office, you want a complete set-up, right? You want everything you need to be there and as organized as possible. And ideally, you also want a complete set of home office furniture pieces for you to get the job done right away. What are these home office must-haves anyway?
A Computer
Although not really a piece of furniture, it will help you in so many ways. We do recommend getting a laptop instead of a desktop though. Why so? A laptop embodies one of the best things about working from home: mobility. Even if you have a monitor on your desk, too, you’ll find that a laptop gives you flexibility. With a laptop, you can also refocus simply by moving temporarily out from your office into your porch or something.
A Desk
Ideally, you need a space for a traditional desk where you create an ergonomically correct workstation. But, if you need to get creative, you can make a table, counter or other flat surface work. Some will actually recommend adjustable desks too, if you can find one. A desk that adjusts to different heights can switch you from sitting to standing mode whenever you’d like throughout the day. Adjustable desks are available at some home and office supply stores.
A Comfortable Ergonomic Chair
Take time to select and invest in a comfortable chair; it is one of the most important parts of an efficient home office. This is because your chair is the place where you spend most of the time, so it pays to invest in a proper model. A stability ball, of course, is another way to go, for all you health nuts and contemporary living aficionados.
Adequate Lighting
Just as a good chair is important for an ergonomic home office, so is having adequate lighting levels. You don’t want to deal with headaches and eye strain from squinting or using lighting that makes it hard to read, right? You can invest in a good desk lamp for adequate lighting on the area where you work the most.
A Printer
The type of printer you choose will depend on your needs. However, a good printer, scanner, or all-in-one device can be a good investment in many ways. If you need or want to keep hard copies of documents, then an actual printer is likely a necessity. But if you tend to stick with digital copies and just occasionally need to send a copy of a tangible document, a simple scanner might be enough.
A Vision Board
Why a vision board, you ask? This home office must-have will be a visual reminder of your “bigger picture goals”. All it takes, really, is a poster or foam board with cut-out pictures, drawings and/or writing of the things that you want to achieve. A white board with all your plans written on it or a cork board with inspiring photos are both good ideas too.
