Have you ever thought of buying bean bag chairs for your room or for common rooms? If you have, ever wondered why they’re so expensive? I mean, bean bag chairs aren’t even chairs at all. They’re like just big pin cushions or something. In addition, they don’t seem to have involved complicated construction and are made from relatively inexpensive materials. Why the hell do they come with that price tag then? We may never know why but the good news is, we can make one of our own. Why stop with one? Why not make one for each room in the house? Here we tell you how to create a DIY bean bag chair.
Materials
The materials you’ll need for this bean bag chair are generally few and simple:
- Two pieces of fabric which maybe identical or different in style, depending on your preferences of course.
- For the filler, we suggest 3.5 cubic feet of bean bag filling but you can also use shredded foam
- Zipper or Velcro
- Scissors
- Needle and Thread
Directions
- Cut two fabric pieces to 45 inches x 32 inches. This size is for a child’s bean bag. If you want a bigger one, just add 10 more inches to both length and width.
- Turn right sides together. On the long raw edges, use a zigzag stitch to prevent fraying. Then straight stitch the same edges.
- Fold the fabric in half like a hot dog bun, matching up the sewn edges.
- Starting from the folded side, round one end, removing approximately 6 inches of material from the corner.
- Open the fabric back up, and you should have a nice symmetrical curve on one side. Zigzag the raw edge, and again use your straight stitch to close.
- Open the remaining unsewn edge. Keeping right sides together, fold in half the opposite way as shown below
- Sew your 22 inch zipper or velcros into the center of this opening.
- Turn the bean bag chair right side out and fill with beans or shredded foam.
