Many consider music to be a form of art. While we usually set them into their own categories, there have been times where the visual aspects of art and music have come together. When the two are mixed, you can get some amazing results. In this article, I’m going to show you what can happen when we mix the two.
Art and music collide
There are many ways which people have mixed the aural and visual to make artistic wonders. For starters, we have the entrancing sight of “dancing paint”. This being visualized in this article’s image. Paint is put onto a speaker which then makes noise at different frequencies. These vibrations will make the paint “dance” in all kinds of interesting ways. The paint forms towers which move slowly almost as if they were floating.
Of course, the dancing paint is a more modern take on this topic. One of the oldest combinations of art and music is dance. The most recognised of these being ballet. Music is paired with all kinds of other, mostly interpretive dances as to make their own kinds of art.
You can’t talk about the artistic use of music without including theater. Of course, this active mode of storytelling has been around for thousands of years. Even today theater has a large following all around the world. Without music, theater would be quite hollow and meaning would be lost. We convey a lot of emotion and meaning through music.
All kinds of other ornamental instruments exist in the world. Wind chimes, the Japanese shishi-odoshi (actually made to scare animals, but they create a relaxing atmosphere in a garden), even down to the “coins” bellydancers wear to produce sounds as part of their dance.
