Must-Have DIY Tools

August 19, 2015 By Elizabeth Leave a Comment

We’ve recently posted something about simple DIY home repairs and oops… We forgot to mention an important detail! First and foremost, you need to have the necessary tools and equipment before performing those simple repairs, right? So why don’t we talk about just that. What are the must-have DIY tools then?

A well-equipped DIY toolbox  is essential for completing a wide variety of simple jobs around the home, ranging from mounting a hook for photo frames to major home improvement projects like bathroom renovations. We now discuss the necessary tools everyone should own, as well as each tool’s practical use. You’ll never know when you might need them!

What tool or set of tools should I buy first? The most practical order in which to obtain the basic tools is to simply buy the ones you need for your current home improvement project or repair. Then just add the ones you need, subsequently adding each tool along the way with each new project. Remember though to purchase the best quality of that piece of equipment so that in the end, you’ll have a set of high-end tools. If however, you are most certain that you will only be using a certain piece of equipment once (that will be unlikely), you can always opt to just rent it.

Here now are the DIY essentials. Remember that by essentials, we mean what you will be needing the most in your home projects. Whatever you choose to add is solely up to you .

When we talk about handyman work, a hammer comes to mind (not for everyone though). One end of a hammer is used to drive nails in while the other side is used to pull nails out of wood or a wall. Screwdrivers are also useful – to pry off the lids of paint cans, open child-proof battery compartments, and of course, to simply rotate screws.  Pliers are also a must-have since it can be used as a clamp and a replacement for a wrench. Need to lighten nuts and bolts, as well as loosen plumbing fixtures? Have a wrench in your toolbox then. An electric drill is also very versatile. Use it if you want to drill holes, drive screws, and even grind materials. Although not really required for the DIY-ers, having handymen gear ready is also a good idea. Try putting in safety goggles and work gloves if you want.
