Metal furniture brings out the style of any home décor. Whether indoors or outdoors, they are great for use because they are adaptive to design, are budget friendly, and require minimal care and maintenance too. Here we will focus mainly on maintaining outdoor metal furniture. Although they require little attention for upkeep, your metal furniture would definitely decline in quality if not given the right amount of care.
Because your outdoor metal furniture pieces are exposed to air and moisture, their metal component is also prone to oxidation which will most likely cause rusting. Rusts and dulls on the surface are the most common problems among metal furniture.
Start off with some light cleaning. Sweep the surface gently with soft cloth or brush. You can check the manual, if there is any included for instructions on maintenance.
To prevent rusting, the surface must be finished with varnish, paint, or powder coating. If you already see rust spots, sand the area off first with fine sandpaper and then the finishing follows.
Aluminum furniture are rust-proof, you will only need to wipe it with a soft, clean cloth dampened with non-detergent liquid soap and water solution. They are then dabbed dry to avoid leaving water marks.
Keep an eye out for scratches because metal materials are very prone to them. Avoid using abrasive scrubbers or cleaners as they can scrape off the finishing, exposing the metal to rust-inducing moisture.
As much as possible, avoid covering your metal chairs and table with plastic protections too. The finishing may be damaged because of the trapped water, humidity, and heat. Only consider covering them with breathable covers when your furniture will not be used for a long time.Store your furniture indoors during times of inclement weather as it may rust or dull the metal.
In the long run, knowing how to care for your furniture will eventually pay off. Buying new furniture pieces will then be postponed when your outdoor furniture set is well taken care of.
