August 8, 2015 By Elizabeth Leave a Comment

Have you ever heard of a pizza topped with only tomato sauce and cheese? That would be your regular and all-time favorite pizza, New York Style. But have you heard of a pizza measuring an inch thick and topped with overflowing meat, chunky marinara sauce, and cheese? No?

Pizza is a dish that’s been around for ages. It has become the favored food around the globe. Needless to say, pizza is loved by several people from all over the world. Who wouldn’t possibly adore the crusty pie, tomato sauce, cheese, and toppings all together? A full meal jam-packed into one slice.

Everything is all about the crust and toppings. Here’s a list of all the other types of pizzas today. Enjoy!

1. Neapolitan Pizza

Originating from Italy, it is the original type of pizza that we all know and love today. There are two variations of this kind, the Margherita and the Marinara. The former consists only of tomato sauce, basil leaves, tomatoes, and mozzarella cheese. Everything fresh and unprocessed! On the other hand, the Marinara is what we call the no cheese pizza. I know it’s hard to believe it, but it’s true. Its traditional toppings are tomatoes, oregano, garlic, and extra virgin olive oil.

2. Deep Dish Pizza

This Chicago-based pizza pie is commonly called deep dish because of its deep ledge which allows more room for pizza toppings to fill. Oozing with meat, cheese, chunky marinara sauce, and vegetables, this pizza outweighs all the other type of pizza topping-wise. The filling in process starts from baking the pie partially, then putting all the other toppings with the gooey cheese at the bottom, and pouring the marinara sauce all over the pizza.

3. New York Style Pizza

The New York Style pizza was created having thin crusts to give pizza lovers out there ease of folding and eating it like a sandwich. The traditional toppings are cheese, tomato sauce, and one or two more toppings. This pizza is generally made with a thin crust and less ingredients as a rule.

4. Sicilian Pizza

The Sicilian Pizza is known for its rectangular shape and square, even slices. You can add up any topping as you like so long as the dough’s shape is maintained. This pizza is all about stuffiness: a lot of sauce, thick dough, and gooey cheese!

5. Gourmet Pizza

You’ve heard it all before. The unusual ingredients are what make this pizza unique. Instead of the traditional marinara sauce, this type of pizza uses Alfredo sauce, or extra virgin olive oil, or none at all. They are known to have some of the popular toppings: artichoke hearts, caviar, bean sprouts, goat cheese, oysters, eggplant, and what have you. Gourmet pizza is gaining popularity all over the world.

With so many options to choose from, why not take a chance and indulge in all of them? Be daring and try a new pizza once in a while. There’s so much more than your regular three-topping pizza out there. Share with us your thoughts!
