If you are renting your home or apartment and it does not have a dishwasher then consider a freestanding unit. The beauty of freestanding dishwashers is that you can take them with you when you go. Also, if you need to repair the unit it is much easier to get to. You can even take it directly to the repairman if needed.
Great for Small Kitchens
Another time when freestanding dishwashers really shine is when you have a kitchen too small to lose the space for an under counter dishwasher. A freestanding unit can be moved out of the kitchen as needed.
Additionally, it provides extra countertop working area which can be a major boon! You know how you are always looking for a nice working station? Now you can have that, and roll the dishwasher to the pantry or garage when not in use.
The biggest caveat with one of these machines to keep in mind is that they steal your sink for operation. This can be inconvenient if you need your sink during that time.
