Dr. Bensalem-Owen is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in epilepsy, clinical neurophysiology and neurology. She specializes in the care of adults with epilepsy with a special focus on the treatment of drug-resistant epilepsy. She has special interests in planning for epilepsy surgery in potential candidates and in responsive neuro-stimulation as well as in caring for women with epilepsy during their reproductive years. Dr. Bensalem-Owen is a fellow of the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society and a fellow of the American Neurological Association. She is member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Epilepsy Society and honorary member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She received several teaching awards including the Abraham Flexner Master Educator Award and the Champions in Health Award by the Epilepsy Foundation Kentuckiana.

Dr. Ebong evaluates and cares for patients with epilepsy and neuromuscular disorders as part of the expert team at the Kentucky Neuroscience Institute. She her medical degree from the UK College of Medicine, and completed her residency in neurology and a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. Dr. Ebong clinical interests include general neurology, focal epilepsy, generalized epilepsy, psychogenic non-epileptic seizures, neuropathy, myopathy, motor neuron disease and electrodiagnostics.

Dr. Ibraheem is an Assistant Professor of Neurology and Epidemiology at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Ibraheem’s research interests include neuroepidemiology, cerebrovascular research, neurology health policy, neurology healthcare, and evidence-based neurological care. His clinical interests include stroke and vascular neurology, neurocritical care, emergency neurology, neuroinfections, and headaches.

Dr. Jay Avasarala is a neurologist with extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of multiple sclerosis. He completed his neurology residency training at New York Medical College/St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Centers and his fellowship training in multiple sclerosis at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis as a recipient of the National MS Fellowship Award. Following his fellowship training, he went on to become a faculty member at Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N.C. He has a particular interest in studying MS in African Americans as well as the role of vitamin D and bone health in MS, particularly among whites. Additionally, he is working to track disease changes and develop new diagnostic criteria based on changes in the retina as seen on optical coherence tomography, an imaging technique of the retinal layers helpful in determining the progression of MS. His goals include making fundus imaging – retinal photography useful in diagnosing MS – a routine diagnostic tool in outpatient neurology.

Dr. Baumann received his medical degree from the Case Western Reserve University, School of Medicine in Cleveland. He completed two years of pediatric residency followed by a three-year fellowship in child neurology at the University of Chicago Medical Center. Dr. Baumann is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Child Neurology. He has served on the board of directors of the Professors of Child Neurology and the American Academy of Neurology and is currently on the Board of Directors of the United Council for Neurological Subspecialities.
