Gerald J. Calegan, II, M.D.

Dr. Calegan joined The NeuroMedical Center in 2006, and alongside neurosurgeon Dr. Paul Waguespack, developed Baton Rouge’s first Deep Brain Stimulation Center to treat patients with Parkinson’s Disease, essential tremor, and dystonia. Dr. Calegan treats all neurologic conditions, and is actively engaged in clinical research. He has served as the primary investigator for several clinical trials at The NeuroMedical Center. He believes in the importance of personally meeting with each and every one of his patients and their families in order to serve as an expert adviser in the sometimes difficult and confusing process of medical decision-making. Dr. Calegan is an active member of several professional organizations including the American Academy of Neurology and the Movement Disorder Society.

Dr. Steven T. Atkins

New Orleans, LA

Dr. Atkins joined Culicchia Neurological Clinic as a staff neurologist in May, 2002. Dr. Atkins received his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, completed his residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and a fellowship in electromyography and neuromuscular disease at Louisiana State University. He holds certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is a member of the Louisiana State Medical Society and American Academy of Neurology.

Dr. Charles Fiore, Jr.

Dr. Fiore is one of the few physicians in the region trained in the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders such as neuropathies (disorders of the peripheral nerves), radiculopathies (pinched nerves in the neck or back that usually result in numbness or weakness and myopathies (acquired diseases of the muscles that can result in weakness). Kevin R. Hargrave, M.D.

Lafayette, LA

Dr. Hargrave is the medical director of Neuroscience Center of Acadiana. He has 15 years of experience in private practice in, neurology and sleep medicine, Dr. Hargrave is also co-medical director of Sleep Center of Acadiana at Lafayette General. Other particular areas of interest for Dr. Hargrave include Parkinson’s, MS, epilepsy, neuroimaging and the relationship between sleep apnea and stroke risk. Accepting Medicare and most major insurances.

Joseph A. S. Acosta, MD

Baton Rouge, LA

Dr. Acosta received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas in 1989. Following his internship in internal medicine, he completed a residency in neurology at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he also served as chief resident of the program from 1992 to 1993. After his residency, he was fellowship trained in neurovascular disease and stroke at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland from 1993 to 1995. Dr. Acosta has an interest in general neurology, clinical neurophysiology and is trained in neurovascular ultrasound with a special interest in the treatment of stroke.
