Androscoggin Riverlands State Park

Turner, ME

Lying near Maine’s second largest urban area (Lewiston/Auburn), Androscoggin Riverlands State Park is a 2,675-acre expanse with 12 miles of river frontage. More than half of Maine’s population lives within an hour drive of this park, which is the fifth largest in the State. An extensive trail network and undeveloped lands offer abundant recreational opportunities and habitat for wildlife. The park is part of the larger Androscoggin Greenway and the Androscoggin River Water Trail.

Thorncrag Bird Sanctuary

Lewiston, ME

Thorncrag Nature Sanctuary in Lewiston, a 372 acre wildlife preserve, has been the primary focus of that activity through the years. At an elevation of 510 feet, the highest point in the city, this sanctuary sits as a green capstone, a forested oasis surrounded on three sides by urban and suburban development. Today, a revitalized Thorncrag serves as the springboard for several community outreach programs, and as a significant regional site for wildlife habitat enhancement demonstrations and forestry practices. Since 1986 a dedicated corps of volunteers has been working to restore Thorncrag as a safe and educational resource for the area.

Farnsworth Art Museum

Rockland, ME

Celebrating Maine’s Role in American Art, the Farnsworth Art Museum offers a nationally recognized collection of works from many of America’s greatest artists. With 20,000 square feet of gallery space and over 10,000 works in the collection, there is always something new on view at the Farnsworth. The museum has one of the nation’s largest collections of works by sculptor Louise Nevelson. Its Wyeth Center features works of Andrew, N.C. and Jamie Wyeth.
