National Capital Trolley Museum

Meadowside Nature Center

Meadowside Nature Center offers hands-on natural and cultural history programs for families, schools, and scouts. Visitors can spend their time hiking 8 miles of nature trails or visiting the resident owls, hawks, and American Bald Eagle in their Raptor Aviaries. Inside, visitors can explore the diverse habitats found in Maryland as they crawl through a cave or look at the world from a fish’s point of view in our Legacy of the Land Exhibit (currently under renovation). Their Curiosity Cornerdiscovery room contains books, games, puzzles, and more live animals for young naturalists to explore nature in child-friendly environment.
Rock Creek Regional Park
Derwood, MD
Rock Creek Regional Park stretches across approximately 1,800 acres and includes the beautiful 75-acre Lake Needwood and the picturesque 55-acre Lake Frank. Enjoy all the the park has to offer by meandering along 13 miles of trails through woodlands and along the lake shores, or go picnicking, fishing, or boating while viewing the many species of resident wildlife. You can reserve picnic shelters by contacting the Park Permits Office.
Seneca Creek State Park
Gaithersburg, MD
The park, comprised of 6,300 acres, extends along 14 scenic miles of Seneca Creek, as it winds its way to the Potomac River. The Clopper Day-Use Area contains many scenic areas, including the 90-acre Clopper Lake, surrounded by forests and fields. Picnicking, boat rentals, trails and a tire playground are just some of its recreational opportunities. A restored 19th century cabin and a self-guided path interpret the history of the area.
Brookside Gardens
Wheaton, MD
Brookside Gardens is Montgomery County’s incomparable, award-winning 50-acre public display garden situated within Wheaton Regional Park. Included in the gardens are several distinct areas: Aquatic Garden, Azalea Garden, Butterfly Garden, Children’s Garden, Rose Garden, Japanese Style Garden, Trial Garden, Rain Garden, and the Woodland Walk. The Formal Gardens areas include a Perennial Garden, Yew Garden, the Maple Terrace, and Fragrance Garden. Brookside Gardens also feature two conservatories for year-round enjoyment. A horticultural reference library is located in the airy Visitors Center. Admission to the gardens is free.
