Military Park

Newark, NJ

Historic Military Park, serves as the central downtown gathering space for the Newark community and its visitors to enjoy together. After many years as an underutilized space, Military Park now attracts children, adults, local residents, office workers, and students to Newark’s revitalized town square. The park is privately operated and managed by a nonprofit corporation, the Military Park Partnership. They manage the programs, events, operations, security, and horticulture of the park.

Newark, NJ

The Newark Museum is the largest Museum in NJ with over 80 galleries of inspiration and exploration, educational offerings, innovative family experiences, special events and musical performances.

Thomas Edison National Historical Park

West Orange, NJ

Thomas Edison’s home and laboratory are a step back in time, when machines were run by belts and pulleys and music was played on phonographs. Where to the passerby, the buildings betray little evidence of the industries they once started. Discover where America’s greatest inventor changed our world forever.

Branch Brook Park

Newark, NJ

Branch Brook Park, the nation’s first county park, is noted for the largest collection of cherry blossom trees in the United States. The Newark Light Rail runs on the park’s west side providing multiple access points to the park from Downtown Newark. Branch Brook Park is listed on both the New Jersey (1980) and National (1981) Registers of Historic Places.

Eagle Rock Reservation

West Orange, NJ

The Eagle Rock Reservation is a 400+ acre park along the Watchung Mountains ridge line located between West Orange, Montclair and Verona. The 40 mile Lenape Trail (yellow blazes) skirts the eastern edge of the park. The hiking trails and footpaths that crisscross the woodland (and sometimes boggy) areas of the park are friendly for hikers of all ages and abilities.

Presby Memorial Iris Gardens

Montclair, NJ

The Essex County Presby Memorial Iris Gardens was established in 1927 to honor Frank H. Presby of Montclair, a leading horticulturist and a founder of the American Iris Society. The gardens offer a spectacular display of thousands of iris varieties to visitors from all over the world and is listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Sites. 

South Mountain Reservation

West Orange, NJ

The South Mountain Reservation, covering 2,112 acres, is a nature reserve that is part of the Essex County Park System. It is located in central in portions of Maplewood, Millburn and West Orange, and borders South Orange, between the first and second ridges of the Watchung Mountains.

Turtle Back Zoo

West Orange, NJ

Turtle Back Zoo is a facility of the Essex County Parks Department. The zoo is funded by the County of Essex as a service to the residents of the County and the surrounding areas. The Zoological Society of NJ, Inc. is the fundraising branch of Turtle Back Zoo. The Society is a not-for-profit organization that helps to raise funds for improvements to Turtle Back Zoo.

Liberty Hall Museum

Union, NJ

Liberty Hall Museum, is home of New Jersey’s first elected governor and signer of the Constitution, William Livingston. Built in 1772, on the eve of the American Revolution, Liberty Hall has been a silent witness to more than 200 years of American history. Over the last two centuries, the originally designed 14-room Georgian Style home has grown into a 50-room Victorian-style mansion. The site houses extensive collections of antique furniture, ceramics, textiles, toys and tools owned by seven generations of the Livingston and Kean families.
