Alberto J. Espay, MD, MSc

Dr. Espay, is professor and endowed chair of the University of Cincinnati James J. and Joan A. Gardner Family Center for Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders. He trained in neurology at Indiana University as well as in clinical and electrophysiology of movement disorders at the University of Toronto, where he obtained a master’s degree in clinical epidemiology and healthcare research. Dr. Espay served as chair of the Movement Disorders Section of the American Academy of Neurology; associate editor of Movement Disorders, the official journal of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS); and in the executive committee of the Parkinson Study Group.

David Ficker, MD

Dr. Ficker, is a neurologist with the Epilepsy Center at the UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute and has been a neurologist with UC Health since 1997. He is currently the associate director of the Epilepsy Center, as well as the medical director of the EEG Lab and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He has been an associate professor of Neurology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine since 2015, and the program director of the Epilepsy Fellowship since 2007. Dr. Ficker’s clinical practice focuses on epilepsy and seizures, both recent onset and difficult to control cases. As a native Cincinnatian, Dr. Ficker is dedicated to providing world-class epilepsy care to the region as a member of one of the most experienced multidisciplinary epilepsy teams in the nation. Dr. Ficker is a Board member of the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Cincinnati, and chair-elect of the Epilepsy Foundation national Professional Advisory Board.

Matthew Flaherty, MD

Dr. Flaherty, is a neurologist at the University of Cincinnati Neuroscience Institute, a member of the UC Stroke Team and a professor of Neurology at the UC College of Medicine. Dr. Flaherty is currently an associate professor of Neurology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Dr. Flaherty practices general neurology with an emphasis upon stroke care. Andrew D. Hershey, MD, PhD, FAHS

Dr. Hershey, attended the MD/PhD program at Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri. After earning his MD and PhD, Dr. Hershey was an intern and resident in pediatrics at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, St. Louis, MO. He then was an adult neurology resident at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO, followed by his child neurology fellowship at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, St. Louis, MO. After his fellowship, Dr. Hershey joined the faculty at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Ohio, within the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where he is director of the Headache Center. Dr. Hershey’s research interests currently include the improved diagnosis and treatment of childhood headache disorders, characterization of outcome responses, studies in new pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment regimes, and the neurogenetics of migraines.

Joseph Broderick, MD

In addition, Dr. Cavitt is particularly interested in how epilepsy treatments influence specific women’s health issues such as contraception, fertility, pregnancy and bone health.
