Dr. Koch has been around for most of the major breakthroughs in refractive surgery. He was one of the first refractive surgeons in America, first performing keratomileusis (the original manual technique for what is now LASIK) in 1979, keratophakia in 1980, and radial keratotomy in 1983 (he is also a radial keratotomy patient himself). He was among the first phakic lens implant surgeons, being one of the original clinical investigators for the Artisan/Veriyse lens and an early international implanter of the Visian lens.
