Going out of town soon? Done packing? Or are you like most of us who pack all our stuff at the last minute before leaving? Either way, what’s important is that you know exactly what to bring along for your long trip. Whether it be in a different country or just a different state, these travel essentials are a must have so that your trip goes smoothly as planned.
A flashlight will come in handy for those trips that involve camping and exploring caves. Bring along a small and lightweight one but make sure it is strong enough to light up your way when needed. A flashlight is also recommended if you’re sharing rooms with someone and you suddenly have the need to look for something at night. No need to switch on the main lights!
A good pair of sunglasses will not only add style to your outfit to make you look cool, it will also protect your eyes. Remember to pick a good one though. We recommend a pair of sunglasses that provides UV 400 protection or lenses that block 99% or 100% of UVB and UVA rays.
You will also definitely need your gadgets with you. Bring your camera, tablet, mp3 player, or smartphone to capture the moments and to entertain you while you wait for your flight. You can also use your mp3 player and smartphone to play music whenever you need it (let’s say, to block the noise your little brothers make, for example).
Obviously, you cannot go traveling without money. If you hate carrying lots of money, you can also opt to bring a debit card or a credit card. Remember to bring internationally accepted credit cards though. Who knows, if you run out of cash, these tiny pieces of plastic might just save you!
In addition to your maintenance medications (if you have some), you should also bring medicines for motion sickness, upset stomach, and pain. Traveling while feeling nauseated or having abdominal pain will suck the life out of your trip. So, do take time to drop by a nearby pharmacy for these medicines.
With a global SIM card, you get to stay in contact with family and friends back home. You also get to save money by making cheaper international calls, text messages, and internet use. Who doesn’t love updating their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram from time to time?
Toiletries, toiletries, and toiletries. Bring wet wipes with you to clean up scrapes and scratches, wipe the sweat off your face, and for freshening-up. Bring a small bottle of liquid soap or hand disinfectant too. Of course, don’t forget to pack your toothbrush and toothpaste. Smile for the camera!
Clean drinking water supply in some areas will not be as good as what we have here. For you not to have traveler’s diarrhea, bring bottled water, as much as you want. If you have the luxury of choosing, buy bottled water with electrolytes and vitamins. This will also restore the lost nutrients when we sweat too much.
We know you are dying to try the cuisine of different cultures. However, food will not be available the whole 24/7 in some places. Buy snacks such as a small bag of potato chips or biscuits if you can. Remember to dispose your trash properly though.
Finally, don’t forget to bring an open mind…. What? Yes, travelling in different places will make you realize how different it is from yours. Always welcome new experiences and accept their culture. Do not judge them. Be thankful that they are welcoming you as friends and even sometimes, family. With all that packed up, have fun!
